William Henry serves all of the 5th and 6th graders for the Capital School District. We have over 900 students, in 45 homerooms. Our school employs a PBS (Positive Behavior Support) system to encourage positive behavior. We also have a very active PTO group at our school.
Our classes are set up by teams. Grade 5 teams are two or three teacher teams, and our grade 6 teams are three or four teacher teams. We are very proud of all of our staff and our students.
Our students have 5 academic classes each day along with a related arts or physical education/health class. Related Arts can be:
We also offer beginning band classes in grade 5 including the introduction and opportunity of playing a string instrument. In grade 6 our students begin to play more complicated musical arrangements.
Our school district is committed to technology as well as academics. For the past several years we have proudly been involved in a LoTi (Levels of Technology Implementation) program through the state. We have two Macintosh computer labs which are used for related arts instruction and Success Maker instruction known as CCC. In addition, we have a small Macintosh resource lab located in our library. Many students are also involved in our Read 180 program, which has been expanded into 3 instructional labs with 18 computers. Our classrooms are equipped with 1 to 3 iMac computers and a PC for each teacher. Our school also has six wireless laptop carts which are loaned to our teachers for a two week loan period for special technology integration, with the exception of the eMints grant carts with remain with the teachers who are involved in our grant program. eMint grant teacher teams also have Smart Boards in their classrooms for instruction. William Henry utilizes an instructional management system for our district. Our automated library makes checking out books faster and easier for our students. Additionally, our library has access to the University of Delaware's Lib Search through their mini EMac lab. We are also tied into the State of Delaware's Internet Access and eSchool through the Department of Education. Through Home Access parents are able to log in and view student grades daily. Students and Staff are required to sign a district and state acceptable use policy in order to use the Internet.
We have after school tutoring and activities for our students. There are a wide range of activities, some based on academics, while others are recreational including our annual socials and special PBS reward activities. Throughout the year we offer various special assemblies for students. We also have an outstanding music program at WHMS which includes introduction to Band, Strings and Chorus.
As you can see, William Henry is quite a busy place! We appreciate your interest; please come and visit us in person to see for yourself.
